How to Translate Manga Online — Step by Step

2026-08-065 min read

Translating manga online used to be a pain — you had to either do it manually in Photoshop, or rely on scanlation groups that might never get to your series. With AI-powered tools like MangaOCR, you can translate an entire chapter in minutes.

What You'll Need

  • Your manga files (images, ZIP, CBZ, or EPUB)
  • A browser — nothing to install
  • About 15 seconds per page

Step 1: Prepare Your Files

You can upload single images in JPG, PNG, WebP, or BMP format. For multi-page chapters, ZIP or CBZ is the way to go. Each archive can hold up to 500 pages and 200MB.

Most manga you download from the web is already in CBZ format — that works directly. No need to extract or convert anything.

Step 2: Upload to MangaOCR

Head to the MangaOCR homepage, drag your files onto the upload area, or click to select them. You can upload multiple files at once — they'll queue up and process in order.

Step 3: Choose Your Target Language

Select the language you want to translate into. MangaOCR supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. The source language is detected automatically — no need to tell us what language the original is in.

Step 4: Adjust Layout Sensitivity (Optional)

For manga with dense text or unusual layouts, tweak the layout threshold. The default "Balanced" setting works for most manga. If text bubbles are being missed, try "High precision" mode.

Step 5: Start Translation

Hit "Start Translation" and let the AI do its thing. Each page takes about 15 seconds. You can leave the page and come back later — results are stored for 48 hours.

Step 6: Preview and Download

Once the translation is done, preview your results online. The original text has been removed and replaced with your chosen language. If everything looks good, download the translated images or archive.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use high-resolution images. The clearer the original, the better the OCR and translation quality.
  • Pack multiple pages into a single archive. It's faster and preserves page order.
  • Register for an account. New users get 20 free pages, plus you can come back to your translation history anytime.
