10 Tips for Better AI Manga Translation
AI manga translation has come a long way, but the quality of your output depends a lot on how you use it. Here are 10 tips to get the best possible results.
1. Start with Clean Source Images
Garbage in, garbage out. If your source images are blurry, heavily compressed, or low-resolution, the AI will struggle to read the text. Aim for at least 1000px on the longest side, and prefer PNG over JPEG for text-heavy pages.
2. Use Archives for Multi-Page Chapters
Uploading one big ZIP or CBZ file is faster than uploading each page individually. It also guarantees correct page ordering. CBZ files work directly — they're just ZIP files with a different extension.
3. Pick the Right Layout Threshold
The layout threshold controls how sensitive the OCR is to text regions. For standard manga with clear text bubbles, "Balanced" works fine. For dense pages, overlapping text, or mixed vertical/horizontal layouts, try "High precision" to catch every text region.
4. Check the Source Language Detection
MangaOCR auto-detects the source language. This works well for Japanese, Chinese, and English. If you're translating something unusual, double-check that the detected language looks right before starting.
5. Register for Bonus Pages and History
Anonymous users get 2 free pages per day. Registered users get 20 bonus pages on signup (valid for 15 days), plus your translation history is saved so you can download results from previous sessions.
6. Split Very Large Chapters
Archives are limited to 500 pages and 200MB. If your chapter is longer than that, split it into two parts. Processing is faster and you're less likely to hit timeouts.
7. Enable Email Notifications for Batch Jobs
When uploading multiple chapters, turn on email notifications in Settings. You'll get a message when everything is done — no need to keep checking the page.
8. Retry Failed Pages
Sometimes a single page fails due to a transient issue. You can retry failed pages up to 2 times per page at no extra cost. If it keeps failing, check the image quality.
9. Download Results Before They Expire
Translated results are stored for 48 hours. After that, they're automatically deleted. Download your translations as soon as they're ready, especially if you're doing a large batch.
10. Use the Right Target Language
MangaOCR supports English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. Pick the one that matches your audience. You can always run the same job again with a different target language if needed.
